To the Psalmist He was a Refuge, a Fortress, a Shield, a High Rock, and a Shepherd; but even better, He knew God was MY Refuge, MY Fortress, MY Shield, MY Rock, and MY Shepherd.
When a general principle or truth transitions to a personal conviction, it makes a world of difference. It’s wonderful to know that “God so loved the world” (John 3:16), but how much greater to be able to affirm that He “loved ME and gave Himself for ME” (Galatians 2:20).
So many friends are praying for Sandy and me today as she awaits open heart surgery. Those prayers often include a petition for God’s peace and serenity to surround us. I’m grateful that I can truly say your prayers are being answered.
We are not ignorant of the seriousness of our situation. We know the dangers. But we also know the loving care of OUR Father in Heaven and the peace that comes from knowing He is OUR Refuge, Fortress, Shield, Rock, High Tower, Shelter, Shepherd, and Very Present Help.
I hope you can add the first person singular pronoun to every descriptive title the Bible gives to the Creator of the universe. It makes all the difference in the world.
